Watch out for Drunk Drivers This Thanksgiving in California

|

One of the most dangerous times of year on the road is quickly approaching across the country. While families start planning their Thanksgiving meal, arguing over which sides to serve or which pies to cook, many find a way to unwind before the big day at bars and restaurants across California.

Unfortunately, this trend has led to one of the most dangerous days on the road. In fact, some now refer to the day before Thanksgiving as "Blackout Wednesday," according to Bloomberg.

As you would expect, this sharp increase in the number of people consuming alcohol on a given day also leads to a significant rise in the number of drunk drivers on our roads each year.

In fact, the California Highway Patrol reported that 45 people lost their lives in auto accidents during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend last year. That figure represented a 36 percent rise in the number of fatalities from the holiday weekend in 2013.

Therefore, if you are going to be on the road in Sacramento during this Thanksgiving holiday, it is a good idea to follow some safety tips to make sure you are as safe as possible.

For instance, always buckle up whenever you get in a vehicle, even if it is a taxi or Uber. You never know how safe other people have been before getting behind the wheel.

In addition, if you are going out to have some drinks with friends, make sure you consider how you will get home. Regardless of whether you are going to call a cab or appoint a designated driver, you should have a plan before you go out.

Finally, if you are involved in a collision with a drunk driver over the Thanksgiving holiday, make sure you contact a skilled personal injury attorney promptly. You want to be sure you have someone working diligently on your behalf, so you can focus on recovering from the crash.
