Sacramento Toyota Recall Attorneys
Understanding Unintended Acceleration Claims
If you or someone you love drives one of the recalled Toyota or Lexus vehicles, no doubt you have serious questions and concerns. The Piering Law Firm is currently investigating car accidents where serious injuries of death can be linked to unintended acceleration in Toyota and Lexus automobiles. Our investigation is particularly focused on Toyota and Lexus models — including Toyota Camry, Avalon and Corolla — that were included in extensive recent recalls. These potentially faulty gas pedal assemblies may be present in Toyota vehicles as far back as 2005, so the company has recalled millions of vehicles.

Recalled Toyotas Are Linked to Numerous Fatalities
The problem of sudden and unintended acceleration in Toyota's vehicles has been independently linked to more than 800 accidents — where more than 300 injuries and 19 deaths have resulted. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has received more than 1,700 reports of unintended acceleration in Toyota and Lexus vehicles since the year 1999. These reported incidents have not been exclusive to just one model of Toyota or Lexus. In fact, the reports have included substantial incident numbers for over 25 different models and years of vehicles that use an electronic throttle control system.
These complaints have been linked to hundreds of car accidents and multiple fatalities. But not until the high-profile accident killing of off-duty California Highway Patrol officer Mark Saylor and three members of his family in August 2009 did Toyota finally acknowledge that there might actually be a problem.
Toyota has, at last, admitted that some of its vehicles may pose serious safety risks. Toyota has come to acknowledge that the accelerator pedal could become worn down, making depressing the pedal more difficult, making the pedal spring back more slowly or causing the pedal to get stuck in a partially depressed position. Sudden unintended acceleration — in which your car races ahead even though you are not pressing the accelerator pedal — is a rare but potentially fatal event.
